Crean And Crimson, A Look At The Hoosiers

12/11/09

Tom Crean and the Indiana Hoosiers will be hosting the University of Kentucky Wildcats Saturday at noon. The Hoosiers enter the game with a record of 4 wins and 4 losses, including a 74-64 victory over Pittsburgh Tuesday night. In this border rivalry much is on the line, including bragging rights between John Calipari and Tom Crean. Crean has already challenged Calipari to a Twitter-off, but it was no match as Coach Cal destroyed him in regards to the number of followers.

Here is a look at the Indiana Hoosiers roster:

Devan Dumes (6'2" 192lb., Senior, Guard)
Steven Gambles (6'4" 230lb., Senior, Forward)
Tijan Jobe (7'0" 250lb., Senior, Center)
Brett Finkelmeier (6'1" 190lb., RS Junior, Guard)
Jeremiah Rivers (6'5" 215lb., RS Junior, Guard)
Kory Barnett (6'5" 195lb., Sophomore, Forward)
Verdell Jones III (6'5" 183lb., Sophomore, Guard)
Daniel Moore (5'10" 172lb., Sophomore, Guard)
Tom Pritchard (6'9" 248lb., Sophomore, Forward)
Matt Roth (6'3" 192lb., Sophomore, Guard)
Bobby Capobianco (6'9" 238lb., Freshman, Forward)
Maurice Creek (6'5" 200lb., Freshman, Guard)
Derek Elston (6'9" 220lb., Freshman, Forward)
Jordan Hulls (6'0" 172lb., Freshman, Guard)
Bawa Muniru (6'11" 242lb., Freshman, Center)
Christian Watford (6'9" 220lb., Freshman, Forward)

The Hoosiers are led in scoring by Maurice Creek. Creek is averaging 15.6 points per game. Indiana also places two other starters in double figures scoring, Christian Watford (13.3 ppg.) and Verdell Jones III (12.5 ppg.). Watford also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game. Here is a breakdown of IU's season statistics through eight games:

Points Per Game (73.5)
Field Goal % (42.7)
Three Point % (35.5)
Free Throw % (65.9)
Rebounds Per Game (39.4)
Assists Per Game (14.4)
Turnovers Per Game (16.0)
Blocks Per Game (4.3)
Steals Per Game (8.8)

In a nationally televised game, the Kentucky Wildcats have their work cut out for them again. Do not be deceived by the Indiana's 4-4 record, as they are much better than this indicates. If UK can find sustained success over the course of the game, it could very well be ugly for Indiana. However, the Cats have yet to prove they can maintain a high level of performance from tip to the final buzzer so far. That leaves the window open for the Hoosiers just a bit. All in all, it should be a good one in Bloomington.
